Early cardiac resynchronization therapy and reverse remodeling in patients with mild heart failure: is it time?
Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) has been shown to consistently improve cardiac performance and exercise capacity, leading to reversal of cardiac remodeling and improvement in survival in patients with advanced heart failure and a significant ventricular conduction delay. The strategy of CRT for the treatment of advanced heart failure was secured in 2005 by the landmark Cardiac Resynchro...
متن کاملCardiac resynchronization therapy improves heart rate variability in patients with symptomatic heart failure.
BACKGROUND Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) using biventricular pacing improves symptoms and functional capacity in patients with moderate to severe heart failure. The present study examined whether an improvement in ventricular performance from resynchronization therapy changes the autonomic control of heart rate. METHODS AND RESULTS Heart rate variability (HRV) was examined in 50 pat...
متن کاملSynergistic effects of cardiac resynchronization therapy and Bachmann's bundle pacing on heart failure with atrial tachyarrhythmias.
Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is electrical resynchronization of the ventricles. Bachmann's bundle (BB) pacing is considered to be electrical resynchronization of the atria. Atrial fibrillation (AF) and congestive heart failure (HF) often coexist in the same patient. A 69 year-old man who underwent CRT combined with BB pacing for HF and atrial tachycardias or atrial fibrillation (AF) ...
متن کاملAbnormal diastolic function underlies the different beneficial effects of cardiac resynchronization therapy on ischemic and non-ischemic cardiomyopathy
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the association between diastolic function and the different beneficial effects of cardiac resynchronization therapy in patients with heart failure due to different causes. METHODS: The 104 enrolled patients were divided into an ischemic cardiomyopathy group (n=27) and a non-ischemic cardiomyopathy group (n=77) according to the cause of heart failure. Before implant...
متن کامل‘Optimized’ LV only pacing using a dual chamber pacemaker as a cost effective alternative to CRT
BACKGROUND Cardiac Resynchronization therapy (CRT) remains largely under-used in developing countries owing to the high cost of therapy. In this pilot study, we explore 'optimized' Left Ventricle Only Pacing (LVOP) as a cost effective alternative to cardiac resynchronization therapy in selected patients with heart failure. HYPOTHESIS In economically poorer patients with heart failure, left bu...
